Group alerts: LENA Day with only one child

What does this alert mean?

This room is showing one or more LENA Days where only one child contributed data.

Why does it matter?

LENA Days involve the whole class, so a one-child LENA Day usually indicates one of the following situations:

  • a shared device was uploaded for the wrong child (that is, it was uploaded while assigned to a child in this classroom, but the data on it belonged to a child from another classroom), or
  • a device with old/junk/test data was accidentally uploaded instead of being erased, or
  • in reality, only one child used his/her device due to absences, illnesses, or other unusual circumstances
  • something went wrong in device processing, and only one child's data has come through

How can I fix it?

If you also see a Stalled Recordings warning, address that first to fill in any missing children's data!

If no recordings are stalled:

  1. Click through the dates on the Room Summary until you find the LENA Day with a single child.
  2. Use your knowledge of the room to decide what to do. For example:
    • Was this room scheduled for a LENA Day on this date?
      • If yes, can you sort out why there was only one child?
        • If the rest of the class did not record due to illnesses, absences, an unusual schedule, or technical difficulties, then it might be best to have a "do-over". LENA can help you remove this one child's data and you can try another LENA Day as soon as possible.
      • If the room was not scheduled for this date, then is this child sharing a device with a child whose room did record on this date?
        • If yes, is the child from the other room missing a LENA Day on this date? If so, the data may have been transferred for the wrong child. Your LENA implementation specialist or LENA tech support can help you reassign the data - or remove it, depending on how confident you are about whose LENA Day it really is.
        • If this is not a shared device and/or the dates don't make perfect sense for another child in your center, the LENA team can help you remove the data to preserve the integrity of the room's reports.
